RETIREMENTS
Jerry Slack (Corporate) who at
the time of her retirement had more service at Jefferds than any
other employee on the payroll – 43 years, decided to retire on
October 30. Jerry was hired in the Parts Department in 1966 by
Loyd DeJarnett. Jerry’s many abilities and skills
enabled her talents to be utilized in the Parts, Service Sales
and Administrative departments over her career. Next to Joe
Jefferds, Jerry has the longest tenure at Jefferds Corporation.
In 2006, Jerry was voted Corporate Employee of the Year by her peers. Jerry’s work ethic was extremely commendable and she was meticulous and deliberate in her attention to detail. The last 21 years of her career were spent as Inventory Control clerk where she utilized her skills in various reconciliations for the Accounting Department. Her vast knowledge and experience will be missed by all of us.
Jerry plans to spend more time with her family. She is a devoted NASCAR fan and should get more time to tune into all the events. Our hopes and prayers are with her and her family for a long and restful retirement.
Oscar McComas (St. Albans) retired on October 12, 2009 after 30 years of service. Oscar was our truck driver in the Huntington Branch and treated each truck as though it was his own – he took very good care of all trucks and the State Inspectors eventually stopped bothering him as he got to the point where he knew more than they did! Oscar competed several years in the West Virginia Motor Truck Association Annual Rodeo and he won it at least once. Simply stated, he was very good at his craft. He drove the big truck until his health required a job change and then moved into the St. Albans warehouse. He continued to make local deliveries using the Parts pick up truck and customers loved him from one end of the Valley to the other.
We wish him the very best for his retirement years – may they be long and fruitful.
Clint Burdette (St. Albans) is scheduled to retire in early January – more on that later!
